So let us just take a break from food and talk about fashion. Yes, cooking and sewing are my upmost hobbies. As well as I like to cook succulent dishes, desserts, baking all sorts of cakes, cookies etc, my interest in sewing clothes is likewise. My interest in sewing started well back to my childhood days when I was in the primary school. Once a week we had sewing and embroidery classes at school. We learned to make embroidery on napkin, then in upper classes we would make underskirt, nighty and stitching it by hand. I remember it was a strap nighty in a red with white tiny dots fabric. I then transformed the nighty into a dress by adding sleeves to it !!! Do not ask me how, I do not remember. I used to wear that dress when going to tuition on Saturdays.
During school holidays my mother encouraged me to take embroidery and sewing classes. I would also learn to do crochet on my own, making table placemats, caps etc. I would also do embroidery projects ,such as placemats etc. Once we received an invitation card and there was a design of a flower in cross stitch on it. My sister and I we recreated the cross stitch design on a pillow case.Oh It was so much fun the old days time......mmmmm, so much learning, playing, watching movies on television and of course trying to bake cakes on the heat with a griddle and inverting a pan on the mould. We did not have an oven at that time. Oh my God !!!!!!!!!!! By just writing about this interesting topic, is evoking nostalgic memories of my childhood holidays........mmmmmmmm. I shall always cherish those beautiful moments of my life as it was those critical phases which characterized my personality. And I think it is the same for everyone , don't you think ? What we learned during our adolescence , and when our interest continues into those directions as we grow older, it is those same things themselves that forge our characters and makes us what we are today .Do you agree? You see, When we try to learn something and we show patience and when ultimately the end product is well done, this create a self satisfaction.
Well, as for me my interest in sewing continues right through adolescence to adulthood and till now. This summer holidays I had planned to make some dresses for my daughter with those beautiful fabrics I had on hand. I made this dress for my daughter's fifteenth birthday.
For this A line dress the fabric is a georgette with a wrinkled effect. I make my own patterns, and fortunately I had a pattern which needed some modifications. I had to lengthen it a little, altering the neckline into a V one.It has long side slits and is ankle length. Some times ago I made another dress for my daughter in a heavy georgette black printed fabric. That one was a short and sleeveless dress, with a boat neck. It has very few gathers in the skirt and is very cute.
Well, I hope this insight into my adolescence inspires you to have an interest in sewing, embroidery, cooking and many more other things.....
I think when you have found something you like to do you will do it for the rest of your life, isn't it?
If you are learning to sew or have a little knowledge about sewing, so stay tuned, I shall give you some indications about how to proceed for making the pattern and the constructions of the A line dress.
And if ever you have liked my article I would very much appreciate if you would kindly leave a comment.
